The Marshall Islands Soccer Federation, the governing body of the last country in the world without a football team, are thrilled to announce that we have reached our fundraising goal which will allow us to play our first men’s 11-a-side fixtures.
Having set ourselves the target of raising £20,000 to host the 2025 Outrigger Challenge Cup in Arkansas this August, we are delighted to say we have smashed this total, eventually raising £21,573 through our Kickstarter campaign.
Established FIFA members the Turks & Caicos Islands, the US Virgin Islands, and MLS Next outfit Ozark United under-19s – who have replaced the previously-announced Guam – will compete in the mini-tournament hosted in Springdale, home to the largest Marshallese population outside of the nation itself, between Wednesday, 13th August and Saturday, 16th August 2025.
We will meet the US Virgin Islands, ranked 208th in FIFA’s latest men’s world rankings, in our historic first-ever 11-a-side international on Thursday, 14th August before concluding against the Turks & Caicos Islands, ranked 206th, in our second and final game of the tournament on Saturday, 16th August.
All five 2025 Outrigger Challenge Cup matches will be played at the 6,000 capacity Williams Bulldog Stadium, home of the Springdale High School Soccer Team.
The Marshall Islands Soccer Federation would like to thank the 104 backers who collectively pledged £21,573 on Kickstarter to help bring this project to life, and everyone who has supported us during the fundraising process. For anybody wishing to contribute towards the project that can still be done by donating to our GoFundMe page.
Although still to be confirmed, our first-ever 11-a-side squad will include players of Marshallese descent who grew up in the United States, as well as players of
American descent who grew up in the Marshall Islands themselves. An official squad announcement will be made in the coming weeks.
The first edition of the Outrigger Challenge Cup was an international futsal tournament organised by the Marshall Islands Soccer Federation, and was hosted in the Marshallese capital of Majuro from 22 to 24 July 2024.
The Marshall Islands played its first-ever international of any football code during the competition, which involved teams from the Federated States of Micronesia and Kiribati.
Although we reached the Kickstarter pledge amount, MISF are still looking for parties interested in sponsoring the event. We have a range of opportunities from live streaming partners, shirt sponsorship, and player and match sponsors. Interested parties should email Head of Commercial, Matt Webb at marshallislandssf@gmail.com
All matches will be live-streamed, with more details to follow shortly. For those wishing to watch in-person, we will also be making arrangements and sharing details in the coming weeks.
