The Marshall Islands Soccer Federation, the governing body of the last country in the world without a football team, are looking forward to playing our first-ever 11-a-side international matches at the upcoming 2025 Outrigger Challenge Cup.
Established FIFA members the US Virgin Islands, the Turks & Caicos Islands, and MLS Next outfit Ozark United under-19s will compete in the tournament hosted in Springdale, Arkansas, between Wednesday, 13th August and Saturday, 16th August.
We will face the US Virgin Islands, ranked 207th in FIFA’s latest men’s world rankings, in our historic first-ever 11-a-side international on Thursday, 14th August (8pm CDT) before ending the 2025 Outrigger Challenge Cup against the Turks & Caicos Islands, ranked 206th, on Saturday, 16th August (1pm CDT).
Ahead of the tournament, we profile the 20 players who have been named in the Marshall Islands’ first-ever men’s 11-a-side national team squad:
GOALKEEPERS
Matt Perrella (Age: 33) Matt was born in New Jersey. He played college soccer at Rider University, New Jersey, and then Durham University in England. He spent time at Newcastle United, the team he supports, and in the MLS before playing in the USL Championship. His favourite player is Gianluigi Buffon. He runs a youth soccer academy by the beach in New Jersey.
Jonathan Koehler (43) – Jonathan has played and coached soccer since high school. He has lived in Kwajalein, Marshall Islands, for 25 years. Jonathan’s favourite player is Lionel Messi. He’s been to every continent, all 50 US states, and over 45 countries. Jonathan played for the Marshall Islands national futsal team at the 2024 Outrigger Challenge Cup.
DEFENDERS
Josiah Blanton (25) – Josiah is currently at James Madison University in Virginia, where he plans to major in engineering. As a Redshirt Senior at James Madison University, Josiah was named in the 2024 Second Team All-State, and ranked 91 in TopDrawerSoccer’s Midseason Top 100.
Gladius Edejer (17). Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Gladius has lived in Washington for four years. His favourite players are Sergio Ramos and Pepe. Gladius is an aspiring sports performance trainer. Attackers beware, he plays soccer like it’s a war!
Patrick Phelon (39) – Born in Texas and raised in Massachusetts, Patrick has lived on the Marshall Islands for nine years. His favourite team is the New England Revolution, and his favourite player is Mia Hamm. Patrick once stood on a platform approximately 700ft below the surface of the ocean! He also played for the Marshall Islands national futsal team at the 2024 Outrigger Challenge Cup.
Danny Razook (39) – Danny first moved to Kwajalein in 1988. He started playing soccer aged six and graduated from Kwajalein High School in 2004. He was once an extra in a National Geographic documentary called Riddles of the Dead: Execution Island playing a prisoner of war. Danny was picked to appear in the documentary as he was one of the skinniest guys at his school!
Seth Sidle (22) – Seth’s birth family is from Majuro, Marshall Islands, but he was born in Kauai, Hawaii, and raised in Manchester, Pennsylvania, where he still lives. He played club soccer for FC Ballyhoo, and collegiate soccer at Susquehanna University of Pennsylvania. He supports Arsenal and his all-time favourite player is Robin van Persie. He has a biological brother from the Marshall Islands. Seth and his brother were both adopted by the same family.
MIDFIELDERS
Jaya Corder (18) – Jaya was born in Honolulu, Hawaii but currently resides on Kwajalein Atoll. He has been playing soccer since middle school. His favourite team is FC Barcelona, and his favourite player is Kylian Mbappe. Jaya is also a talented swimmer. He represented the Marshall Islands at the 2024 World Aquatics Swimming Championships in the 100m and 50m freestyle.
Gabino Gallegos (18) – Gabino loves a hype song! His favourite songs include Waka Waka by Shakira, and Work Out by J Cole. Gabino played for the Marshall Islands national futsal team at the 2024 Outrigger Challenge Cup.
Ben Hill (18) – Born in Waimea, Hawaii, Ben has just graduated high school and is now preparing to study business management at Texas Tech University. An accomplished saxophonist, he has been accepted into the university’s band program.
Zach Hill (22) – Zach was born in Jailua, Hawaii, but is currently living in Kwajalein. His favourite players are Thomas Muller and Cristiano Ronaldo, and he supports Bayern Munich. He is left-handed for eating and writing, but right-handed for sports.
Vinay Kumar (18) – Vijay is going into a college scholarship at Williams Baptist University, Arkansas. He was born in Majuro, but moved to the US aged four. He can speak limited Marshallese but understands the language. Vijay’s favourite team is Chelsea, and his favourite players are Cristiano Ronaldo and Moises Caicedo. His nickname is SpongeBob – on account of watching a lot of episodes of the TV show!
Dave Nigro (30) – A four-year starter at Monmouth University, recording 18 goals and 15 assists in 79 games, Dave was named All-MAAC First Team in 2016. He has played for NY Cosmos and NPSL outfit FC Mowtown. He currently plays for Jackson Lions FC, where he is the club’s most capped player and among the top five in all-time goals.
Dominic Pace (18) – Dominic was born in Okinawa, Japan but currently resides on
Kwajalein Atoll. He lived in Japan for six years, then the Philippines for a year, before settling on the Marshall Islands. His favourite underrated player is Che Nche. Dominic knows every word to CW’s The Flash, a TV show he claims to have watched at least 50 times!
Lucas Schriver (20) – Lucas plays club and varsity soccer for Wheaton College, Illinois. He spent most of his club career at Villareal Virginia Academy. Born and raised in Arlington, Virginia, Lucas now lives in Loudon County. He supports FC Barcelona, and his favourite player is Lionel Messi followed by Paulo Dybala. Lucas was blessed by the Dalai Lama when he was a baby. The Dalai Lama gave him a Tibetan name which translates as ‘keeper of the faith’.
Folliet Schutz (23) – Folliet has played soccer since the age of five. He is currently a senior at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, where he plays futsal and soccer. Folliet’s favourite players are Lionel Messi and Wayne Rooney. He played for the Marshall Islands national futsal team at the 2024 Outrigger Challenge Cup.
Cullen Turanga (18) – Born and raised in the Solomon Islands, Cullen has lived on the Marshall Islands for two-and-a-half years. His favourite team is Chelsea and his GOAT is Cristiano Ronaldo. Cullen played for the Marshall Islands national futsal team at the 2024 Outrigger Challenge Cup. He doesn’t like going to school!
FORWARDS
Aaron Anitok-Brokken (18) – Aaron has just graduated from high school. He currently plays for Clark College, Washington, having previously played for Columbia Premier. He was born in Salem, Oregon but moved around a lot within the state of Washington. He supports FC Barcelona. His favourite current player is Lamine Yamal, and his favourite all-time player is Neymar.
Matt John (24) – Matt, born in Klamath Falls, Oregon, currently plays recreational Sunday League soccer. His favourite team is FC Barcelona, and his favourite players are Lionel Messi and Cesc Fabregas. Matt is one quarter of the Marshallese boy band MARK Harmony. When he’s not playing soccer, he’s working on music, performing, travelling, and rehearsing.
Kairos Zinihite (21) – Not much is known about international man of mystery Kairos – but we do know the 21-year-old played for the Marshall Islands national futsal team at the 2024 Outrigger Challenge Cup.
