Before 2021, soccer in our nation didn’t exist. Inspired by his son, Shem Livai created the Marshall Islands Soccer Federation with the intention of giving young people on the islands the opportunity to play the sport in a safe and structured environment.
It sparked an idea that one day, the Marshall Islands could play international soccer – but how does a dream like that become reality…

Our story
The Last Team Society & MISF are collaborating charities founded on the belief that every nation deserves a fair chance to thrive.
The Marshall Islands, a small island nation in the Pacific, has endured generations of injustice — from foreign invasions and nuclear testing to the devastating impacts of climate change that now threaten to erase its very home. Despite these challenges, the spirit of its people remains strong and united.
Our mission is to raise global awareness about the struggles and resilience of the Marshallese community through the universal language of football. By building teams, hosting matches, and sharing their story across the world, we aim to inspire solidarity, drive support, and ensure that the Marshall Islands are never forgotten — because on this planet, no team should have to fight alone.
To fulfill our mission, what better way then football?
The biggest sport in the world by far with nearly 2 billion people watching the World Cup alone.
However, to become a part of this universe, The Marshall Islands need to become members of FIFA.
FIFA membership requirements
In order to reach the World Cup, the Marshall Islands Soccer Federation needs to demonstrate our ability to sustainably grow the game in our islands – from grassroots up to international. Our fundraiser will enable us to meet the requirements of FIFA with the aim of joining the worldwide federation.
Stadium
The Marshall Islands needs to possess a fully-equipped soccer field, fit for international fixtures in the capital of Majuro.
International
We need to host international soccer on the Marshall Islands to demonstrate our ability to host fixtures to FIFA standards.
Curriculum
Kit, equipment, and coaches need to be imported to the islands to develop the next generation of international soccer superstars.
Training
Training camps that allow our Men’s and Women’s National Team to train regularly and hone their skills.
League
We need to launch a recurring domestic 11v11 soccer league on-island which will allow our players to compete and improve.
World Cup
Once we’ve been accepted into FIFA the Marshall Islands will be able to compete in World Cup qualifiers.
Our fundraising target
Our goal is to raise $500,000 USD per year which will enable us to successfully achieve all the requirements needed for FIFA membership in 2030.
There is a stadium in the Marshall Islands that we want to use to host international soccer matches. We are required to install the equipment required, starting of course with goal posts, and the maintenance to ensure the facility meets FIFA standards.
We have men’s and women’s national teams, and to develop the team and prepare them for FIFA competition, we need to provide them with high-level coaching and the opportunities to train and play against international opposition.
We plan to launch the Marshall Islands Soccer League (MISL) which will provide our local players the opportunity to train and develop alongside quality players from around the world.
Give every Marshallese child the opportunity to play soccer. By upskilling local coaches and importing international coaches we can increase the number of young people playing the sport and give them the opportunities to develop.
